REIKI – Usui System of Natural Healing
The word “Reiki” (pronounced Ray-Key), means Universal Life Energy. “Rei” describes the universal, boundless aspect of this energy, while “Ki” is the vital force energy that flows through all living beings. Reiki is a way of transferring this so-called Universal Life Energy and was rediscovered by a Japanese monk, Dr Mikao Usui in the 19th Century. He found the key formula for healing in ancient Buddhist scriptures. After a 21-day fast and meditation on a sacred mountain near Kyoto, he received an empowerment in which the use of the symbols he has discovered in scriptures, were revealed to him. The Usui system of Reiki Natural Healing was born. Today there are over 4,000 Reiki Masters throughout the world.

How does Reiki differ from other healing techniques? Reiki is a hands-on healing technique which is unique due to an ancient “attunement process”, which enhances the ability of the person (or Reiki healer) to better “channel” the Universal Life Energy.

What happens during a treatment? You can actually receive a reiki treatment anywhere and in any position, but it is usual to be lying down. The reiki practitioner will place his/her hands in several different positions, usually over the whole body, though more attention can be paid to problem areas. You will probably feel deeply relaxed and you may start to see different colours, pictures or memories. This means that the treatment is starting to work. The length of treatment can be anything from 5 minutes to 1 hour. Reiki can be just as useful in a shorter length of time.

What are the benefits? Reiki can work on the whole being - including the physical, emotional and mental/awareness. It is helpful in most conditions including chronic ailments and is beneficial in relieving pain, stress and anxiety. Anyone of any age can be treated.

My Reiki Qualifications In Reiki there are 3 degrees – 1st, 2nd & 3rd (or Master) degrees. I have been attuned to Reiki 2nd Degree and was attuned by a wonderful lady Reiki Master in London in 2003. Since then, I have practised on mainly friends and family but have had some very positive feedback. I also use it to treat myself, as I find it’s a wonderful stress reliever and inducer of peace. One day, when I am ready, I would like to become a Master of Reiki.
